How to Avoid Unexpected Breakdowns
Coolant System Inspection
One of the most common breakdown causes is coolant system failure. Whether it be a leaking coolant hose or a damaged water pump, a malfunctioning coolant system can sideline your bus in the worst of places. Fortunately, this can be avoided. By routinely inspecting your coolant system, you’ll catch small issues before they’re big enough to cause breakdowns. You’ll be able to replace old houses and patch small leaks. We also recommend you replace your coolant at least once a year as it does break down like most other fluids.
EGR System Inspection
Another common breakdown cause is a faulty EGR system. Your EGR system is responsible for recirculating some of your exhaust fumes back into your combustion chamber. This drops the operating temperature and reduces nitrogen oxide production. If your EGR system malfunctions and recirculates too much of your exhaust, your engine may go into limp mode. By ensuring your EGR valve and EGR components are in good shape before each trip, you’re significantly reducing the risk of unexpected breakdowns.
